HDI is lawfully registered non-profit organization in the Republic of Maldives. Working in areas of Climate Change, livelihood, women empowerment, Health, Education, strengthening governance, Human rights.
To work towards the promotion of the aims and objectives of the atoll development policies and its system for the development of society and in pursuance of its vision and guiding principle. The organization organizes the program to facilitate the development of our societies through social work, and research work, distributes knowledge and program as well reaches out to the larger community through extended programs at the Huvadhoo Atoll and National level.
To actively contribute to the social and economic development of the communities in which we operate and to be an organization that continually responds to the changing social realities through the development and application of knowledge, toward the development of a sustainable society that promotes and protects the equality, social justice, and human rights for all.
We are working on several projects for fulfillment of our objectives
The “Hoandedhdhoo BAY” project is designed to develop a local beach and a tourist beach with water sports such as canoe, windsurfing and floating water park.
Hoandedhddhoo’s population is approximately 1350 people. Currently 3 registered guesthouses and 5 civil society NGOs are working in the island. Hoandedhdhoo used to have the best beaches and lagoons in Huvadhoo Atoll. Its natural beaches have been vanished due to industrialization and unwanted reclamation and other coastal projects.
It has been nearly a decade since locals had proper swimming area. Council has designated an area for local swimmers, due to improper waste disposal, this area has been polluted. Locals have been waiting for council to develop a proper beach with swimming and watersports facilities for long time. Due to financial scarcity, council has yet to fulfill this need for the public.
After long and mindful discussions and consultations with the council and senior citizens, HDI and Hoandedhdhoo council has conceptualized “Hoandedhdhoo BAY” project with project value of US$ 350,000.
